We were delighted to hear that we’d achieved success for the sixth year in a row at this year’s Great Taste Awards – organised by the Guild of Fine Food and described as the ‘Oscars of the food world’ the awards are the largest and most trusted accreditation scheme for fine food and drink.
Our winner for 2019 was Southover Pulled Ham Hock and we couldn’t be happier, the judges commented ‘Looks perfect and the aroma is hugely inviting. The texture and taste do not disappoint- the meat is tender, the juices have good salinity.’ The Great Taste Awards have a scoring system where products receive a number of stars. We were awarded 1-star with the definition of this rating being: Simply delicious. A food that delivers fantastic flavour. Approximately 25% of entries receive this rating each year.
This year producers entered a whopping 12,772 products, over 500 judges including chefs, food writers, food critics, buyers, fine food retailers and restaurateurs meticulously blind tasted in small, varied groups across a 60 day period to judge all the entries.
For our team here at Southover, the award is recognition for all the hard work we put in to produce stand-out, great-tasting products. It is also reassuring for our customers who receive a reliable seal of approval that they are buying food recognised for the great taste and not the packaging and branding.
We want to thank everyone who has been involved in making this award happen, we’re already busy preparing products for Great Taste 2020!
