Less is more this Christmas

With a predicted growth (albeit only 2% across the retail sector) in spending this Christmas people are, apparently, spending more, but buying less.  The food industry will likely see increasingly expensive staple foods being sacrificed for carefully selected festive treats.  Ever ones to move with the times we at Southover have come up with a delectable selection of the finest foods on offer to help you satisfy this discerning seasonal appetite.

We’ve been making award winning hams for twenty years now and out Southover Gammon is one of the finest you can buy.  It comes on the bone, which is excellent for carving and looks impressive in the chiller display and you can have whole or halves (5kg or 2-3kg), breaded, plain, honey roast or traditionally oak smoked.  If you like free range we can do that too.

Pate is a seasonal favourite and our range of traditional flavours are always popular this time of year.  Everything from Ardennes, Brussels and duck to venison, pheasant or even wild boar are available to buy.  Another seasonal favourite is the hand raised pie.  At 5lb in weight it’s a generous undertaking, but worth every ounce, packed as it is with either pork, turkey and cranberry or pork and apricot.

Our cheeses are popular sellers all year round, but Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a locally produced Stilton or perhaps some Wenslydale and Cranberry.  To round things off, though, you can’t beat deep filled mince pies and Christmas pudding, but if your customers prefer a chocolate treat then look no further than local producer of internationally renowned cake slices, Kate’s Cakes, who are producing two Christmas specials – a brand new Berry Brownie, filled with delicious winter fruits, and a reinvention of the irresistible Christmas fruit slice.

So, if you’re going to invest any money this year you could do a lot worse than come to Southover and guarantee yourselves a quality Christmas with foods that even the most discerning consumer won’t be able to resist.
