Winning Streak

We’ve asked this question more than once before, but as the medals and trophies keep coming in, it does beg the question – how does Southover keep winning so many awards?

Most of the company’s success lies with its cooked meat products.  They have always been manufactured by hand at the company’s dedicated production plant.  They use traditional preparation and cooking methods along with closely guarded recipes and the results have always been impressive.

“We’ve had to put the products out there, but we’re always pleasantly surprised when we win something.”  Says Steve Pearce, company founder and a butcher by trade.  “Trying to win prestigious awards like Great Taste Awards or BPEX keeps us on our toes and makes sure that the products are always the best we can produce.”

And that’s where Southover shines.  The notion of high quality foods and Southover’s reputation for excellence are indivisible, which guarantees success.  It’s not all just about doing well, though, as innovation is also a key to the company’s ongoing success.  Products such as the 30 Second Bacon and the Grange Gammons have delivered affordable high quality alongside excellent portion control and time saving, making them irresistible products for the customers whilst still winning favour with the judge’s panel.

It’s a pervading ethos that runs throughout the company and ensures that, regardless of which awards might be up for grabs at any one time, the product is always the best it can possibly be.

“I guess that’s why we keep winning awards, we just make products that are good enough.”  Hubris, perhaps?  “Absolutely not.  Of course, we’re proud of what we do and we’re proud that the products sell well and win awards, so it makes sense for us to keep on making products which do just that.”  Observes Steve.  “After all, who wouldn’t?”
